The goals of this course are to provide an overview of at least two key research approaches in geography and environmental studies; and to develop the ability to write more effectively, using the conventions of geographic and environmental studies literature. In terms of learning outcomes on completion of the course, student leave the class being able to: (1) Identify and communicate key research approaches and current trends in geography; (2) Improve the clarity and coherence of writing, especially in developing more focused introductions, clear sentence structure, clear paragraph structure, meaningful conclusions, and development of thoughts with real-life examples; (3) Develop your editorial skills; (4) Improve critical and analytical reading skills, specifically related to geographical and planning research papers; (5) Heighten ability to access and evaluate research materials; (6) Develop ability to formulate effective research questions and conduct literature reviews; and (7) Develop collaborative work skills.
